NOTES FOR PROPOSERS, SECONDERS AND
CANDIDATES FOR MEMBERSHIP

Initiatives in putting forward Candidates should come from the Proposers and Seconders and not from the Candidates themselves.
The Proposers should arrange for a Membership Application form to be filled in and forwarded to the Secretary. This will ensure that relevant details are filed but do not, in itself, imply election. The Application Form should be updated if and when appropriate. Proposers and Seconders must have had four years continuous membership.
Candidates who have little or no knowledge of the Golf Club or its members should forward references from their past/present Golf Club where applicable.
Applicants are selected for Membership interviews by the Membership Committee. Selection from the pool will favour:
a) Length of time of application b) Age profile c) Golfing ability
d) Members of other Clubs moving into the area e) Family connections
Candidates should be introduced to the Secretary and some Committee members, if not already known to them.
A certain level of Golfing ability is normally expected and, if in doubt, Proposers should arrange games for their Candidate with members of the Committee. Potential may be taken into account but current Handicaps of above 21 for Gentlemen and above 36 for Ladies are likely to have a lower priority. Beginners may be required to take lessons from the Professional and not be permitted to play on the Course unless accompanied by another member, until he/she has obtained a Club Handicap.
Candidates for interview will be selected for interview by the Membership Sub-Committee (President, Captain and Immediate Past Captain). The same Committee will conduct the interview and Proposers or Seconders are expected to accompany their Candidate.
Candidate's names will be posted on the board for 28 days for member's comments before finally being elected by the Management Committee
Proposers should provide their candidate with a copy of this document.
