Whiitington Trophy - May 5th 2018

Ryan Brooks receiving the Whittington Trophy from club captain Ray Scambler.

Ryan Brooks won the Whittington Trophy for the second time, with rounds of 68 and 65 for a total of 133.  Second place was Liam Phipps (Olton) on 137 and Jake Walley (Enville) was third on 143 with a second round of 69.

The golfers enjoyed a warm sunny day for the competition, and many favourable comments were made about the condition of the course.

Ryan, who started from the 10th tee on his second round put his second shot close to the pin on the 9th. Unfortunately, his eagle putt just shaved the hole and had he holed the putt he would have equalled the course record!

on Wed April 4, 2018

The 2018 Whittington Ladies Trophy was played partly in the Spring sunshine, albeit quite chilly,  with the inevitable occasional April shower. In spite of this some very good scores were returned.

THe Winner,  Eilidh Briggs from Kilmalcolm Golf Club, shot a gross 70 in the morning and a gross 73 in the afternoon. A total of 143 winning her the Wedgewood Bowl. The runner up was Morgan Thomas of Beaudesert Golf Club who shot 146 gross for the two rounds. Third place was Caitlin Evans-Brand of Yelverton Golf Club with a gross 146 for the two rounds.

Excellent scores considering the conditions.

Tee Tours Event at WHGC

by DougPinnington

on Thu February 15, 2018

We welcomed TeeTours on Thursday 15th February to run one of the many events they run in the Midlands. It is understood that a good day was had by all those who attended, as indicated by the following comments made by the organiser on their website:-

On Monday I called at the Proshop to collect the cards. Following Sunday night’s snow, the course was white over. On Tuesday and Wednesday, incessant rain forced the club to take a most unusual decision and put the whole course on temporary greens - very rare.
Fortunately Wednesday night was dry and that was enough to ensure we were on all 18 full greens on Thursday and, although a brisk eighteen to twenty m.p.h. wind depressed temperatures, the sun shone all day.
Not a puddle was to be found and for those who were visiting Whittington for the first time it was truly a revelation; their trolleys were cleaner after playing than before! Such is the quality of this natural heathland and, in my humble opinion, whichever numpty decided to drive the HS2 line through the middle of it wants shafting.

The good news is that we are already booked in again for next year..........

Evidence of the high regard that our visitors have of our course.
